The German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ), one of EXPECT’s consortium partners, will host an in-person workshop from 10 to 12 March 2026 in Hamburg, Germany: Introduction to Deep Learning for Climate Scientists.

This three-day workshop is aimed at climate scientists who are beginners in deep learning and have some prior experience with Python. The course addresses the growing need for practical machine learning skills tailored specifically to climate data and research questions. Participants will gain hands-on insights into applying deep learning methods to climate science challenges, with a strong focus on robust and reproducible workflows.

The training will be taught by experts from DKRZ and HEREON and will be held in DKRZ seminar room 034.

Participation is limited to 25 attendees and registrations are open by 4 February 2026, 15:00 CET.

This training is closely linked to EXPECT, as it supports its mission to advance climate knowledge by integrating Earth observations, climate models and machine learning, particularly in the context of climate extremes.
