The online workshop held on 9 and 10 September brought together 28 participants to delve into the drivers of annual to decadal climate changes. Through 11 presentations and in-depth discussions, participants shared the latest insights in climate research, ranging from climate modelling, extreme events, and atmospheric patterns to innovative methodologies like AI for studying atmospheric circulation changes.
These exchanges led to the refinement of individual working hypotheses and outlined the next steps for collaboration, emphasising the importance of resource sharing. The event, moderated by Rikke Stoffels, Vera Melinda Galfi and Dim Coumou, set a solid foundation for future research collaborations.
Organised by VU Amsterdam and featuring contributions from almost all EXPECT institutions, the workshop aimed to present plans for Work Package 3 (WP3: Drivers of Annual to Decadal Changes in Climate). Each institution provided a detailed overview of their methodologies, seeking feedback, fostering awareness, and exploring potential partnerships.
